If you wear contact lenses, using the latest technologies will optimize your vision. These technologies include silicone hydrogel materials, aspheric lenses, UV blocking, and of course toric lenses that correct astigmatism.
Silicone hydrogel materialssuch as Hydraclear™, by Acuvue™ improve eye health by increasing the oxygen available to the cornea (the front surface of the eye) underneath the contact lens, and it goes without saying that healthy corneas are clear corneas.
Aspheric lenses improve clarity by reducing the amount of aberration in the lens improving vision by improving the optical quality of the lens.
Contact lenses that block ultraviolet light, protect the inner structures of the eye from harmful UV rays and slow the development of cataracts which diminish the quality of vision long before cataract surgery is necessary.
My personal favorite is the use of astigmatism correcting lenses called toric lenses. Some patients with smaller amounts of astigmatism may see 20/20 with their non-astigmatic lenses and still receive a significant improvement in the “quality” of their vision when they switch to a modern toric lens design. They say the world looks sharper or brighter with toric lenses on.
